OUR CORE INITIATIVES
Driving Impact Through Our Four Pillars
At Chalet Concepts, our work is anchored in four interconnected initiatives designed to enhance the impact of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) across Africa. These initiatives are carefully crafted to empower professionals, strengthen institutions, and deliver real-world solutions.
SRHR Leadership Development
Empowering Health Organizations to Meet their Goals – Strategies, Systems, and Processes Development for Greater Impact
In a world full of new demands and crises, it is possible for organizations to be pulled in all directions with the risk of losing the niche for which they were formed in the first place. Further, the ever-changing contexts in which organizations operate brings the risk of organizations losing relevance unless they are agile enough to adapt.
Chalet Concepts does organizational assessments to identify need for new strategies, systems and processes that are in tandem with the versatile environments in which they operate. It supports organizations to update or develop new strategic thinking and plans and to align resources, systems and processes for the achievement of greater impact.
Clients reach out to us for support when their portfolios are shrinking, and they need to reverse the trend; when there is sudden change in the operating environment and the future is uncertain; and when there is internal instability – e.g. when there is risk or actual occurrence of industrial action by staff, when there is fraud, and when key staff have left and the organization needs support for smooth transition.
Funders reach out to us to support organizational strengthening to their awardees so as to safeguard donor resources. They also reach out when there is concern over value for money and there is need to assure this.
Our focus is on supporting organizations that do health related work. We work both in-country as well as across borders in Africa.
Enhancing Technical Expertise in SRHR
Improving Advocacy and Program Expertise of Organizations – Technical Support and People Development for Improved Health Outcomes
Given the diversity of health programming, it is impossible for organizations to have all the expertise they require to implement every aspect of their programs. Even if they were to hire experts, it would be too expensive, and they may not utilize the experts’ time fully.
Chalet Concepts has a pool of experts to tap from whenever necessary and for the level of effort needed. Our clients reach out to us when they need their teams trained on specific technical areas including advocacy. They also do when there is a specific technical deliverable to be accomplished by an expert. In either case, they come to us with scopes of work they need done and we second experts to do such work.
Integrating Values into SRHR Work
Promoting Professional Values for Health -- Values Literacy for Health and SRHR Good
Respectful care in health calls for professionalism above board. Health workers however exist in communities which have their own values. It is therefore not uncommon to find health workers mixing their values with professional obligations.
While some values are good and can promote health, there are others which go against professional standards and lead to harm. Where health workers bring in negative values in healthcare quality suffers. In fact communities avoid health services in such cases.
Values are especially important in sexual and reproductive health and rights where there are as many values as individuals involved. In such cases, health workers must stand for professional standards even if the standards are contrary to their values.
Chalet Concepts does not aim to change people’s values, we aim to make health workers value literate so that they are aware of their values. Where their values are contrary to professional standards, they must stick to the standards for the sake of good healthcare.
Our clients reach out to us to do values assessment and value literacy sensitization when there is need to be sure of professional care and adherence to quality standards. We assess customer satisfaction as well as provider beliefs and practices. We customize trainings based on our findings. We also support projects to develop messages for community sensitization to increase confidence in health services.
Translating Evidence into Action
Growing Evidence to Inform Health Programs and Policy Development – Research, Knowledge Translation and Thought Leadership
At Chalet Concepts we believe that health programs. services and policies must be based on evidence. Further, evidence must be contextualized, what works in another community or country may not work in another.
Our clients reach out to us when they have research agendas, and we work with them to develop the research ideas further. We train researchers, data collectors and data analysts. We also carry out actual research when contracted by our clients to do so.
After developing research evidence, we support organizations to develop dissemination materials. These include policy briefs. We also map out and convene stakeholders who require the evidence to make program and policy decisions and disseminate the evidence to them.
Chalet Concepts has expertise on how programs can work with the media, both social and mainstream media, to publicise new information. We train organizations on how to work with the media as allies.
